Kink, Treats, and Pop

Kink

Kink

Today, I went to socialize cats at the Wisconsin Humane Society again.  Calvin and Hobbes were a bit tired and Hobbes’ fur was a dark gray instead of white today.  I socialized a lot of kittens.  Kink was the smallest of them all.  She was really afraid of people but loved attacking balls with bells in them.  In the socialization log, nobody else had been able to get anything other than fear out of her before I went in today.  I felt like a cat whisperer.

Treats

Treats

Treats was also new to the Royal Cat Hotel.  She was hiding in her drawer when I came in, but came out after a little while and started to explore the suite.  Whenever there was a noise, she would run back to my lap.  She was shedding all over me.

Pop

Pop

Pop was sleeping on top of his cat tree when I came in.  The other cat that was in the suite with him had been adopted.  He allowed me to pick him up and I brought him to a chair outside of the suite.  Pop was the first cat I’ve ever let out of a suite that didn’t run around.  He snuggled on my lap and did not leave it until it was 5:00 when the Humane Society was closing.

  1. Sounds like Kink has had some bad experiences with people or hasn’t been around people before. Hopefully she will get used to having people around and not be so afraid. Being fearful and stressed could be bad for her health.

The photo of Treats is the best–she looks like she’s in command of the situation with those scrunched up eyes! “I’m proud and in charge.” The other kittens have wide eyes and look fearful.

Pop sure must have been comfortable on your lap to not take the opportunity to romp around. Was she purring? It’s so cool when cats purr and vibrate. They feel like motors on your lap. Technicians can imitate a cat’s “sound” effect, but not that vibrating feeling. They’ve got those pillows that vibrate, but they feel artificial and annoying rather than smooth like cat-purr vibrations.

Have I said too much? If I continue, it will be for sure!!!

  2. Kink is only 10 weeks old, so she might just be afraid because she has not been around humans for very long. The simple way to fix that is to socialize her carefully and teach her her that humans are friendly and won’t hurt her. Pop [he] was purring quite a lot.

  3. Kink is SO cute!! She is beautiful, too. I love when cats sit on my lap and purr. It is so relaxing and such a funny feeling. Treats seems like a very nice cat for socializing, because she plays with you. Did some of the cats scratch you when they stood on your lap? I think all kittens are ADORABLE!
