Having a tile-based RPG isn’t all that interesting. Lights help decide the mood. Here’s the same picture, but this time, with the old lighting algorithm instead of having everything completely bright.
Yikes. That’s what you get with a simple algorithm like the one Stace Spation 2½ used until today. Here’s what it looks like now.
The new lighting algorithm uses bilinear interpolation and has a curved falloff instead of a linear one. As usual, source code is available.
